Triage, stabilization, IV therapy, oxygen support, and continuous monitoring for hospitalized patients.
Compassionate care · Always here
A trusted emergency referral partner for South Florida veterinary practices. We respect your patient relationships, return cases to your care, and communicate every step. This page is for veterinary professionals only.

The veterinary landscape in South Florida has changed. Corporate consolidation has shifted how many emergency hospitals approach referrals, with some practices treating referred patients as opportunities to capture, not relationships to honor. Pet Emergency Center has chosen a different path.
We are independently owned by Dr. Seth Kiser and Paige Obrig, and we have served Fort Lauderdale and the surrounding communities for over 40 years. Our position has always been clear: when a daytime veterinarian sends a patient to us, we treat the referral relationship as an integral part of our work. We support your care. We do not compete with it.
Your patient comes back to you. That is not a courtesy. That is how we practice.
Our veterinarians appreciate the opportunity to review the case and communicate with the referring veterinarian prior to transfer. A brief call ahead of arrival ensures a smooth transition for your patient and your client, and it lets our team prepare so the patient is treated without delay.
When you have a case headed our way, please call (954) 772-0420 to give us a heads-up. We will discuss the patient's condition, expected arrival time, and any clinical context that will help us pick up where you left off.
To support continuity of care, please send the following with the referral or as soon as possible after:
Documents can be sent by email or fax. Even a few key details ahead of arrival can save valuable time when the patient walks in.
All contact information for referral coordination, in one place.

Our practice management software, Idexx Neo, fully integrates with our in-house lab and diagnostic imaging equipment. Patient records are sent electronically to your practice email. We communicate the case summary, diagnostic findings, treatments performed, medications dispensed, and discharge recommendations.
If you have not received records you are expecting, or if you need an update on a patient's condition, please reach out at any time.
When you refer a patient, you can be confident that diagnostics, treatment, and stabilization can happen in the same visit, without additional transfers.

Unless circumstances require otherwise, we return your patient to you for ongoing care. Suture removal, recheck exams, ongoing medication management, and post-emergency follow-up are best handled by the practice that knows the patient. We make that handoff explicit in every discharge.
For cases that require specialty referral beyond our scope, we coordinate transfer to the appropriate specialist and keep your practice informed throughout. You will not be left guessing where your patient went or what happened next.
